Antim the Ivirian, a Georgian captured and enslaved, rose to become a Metropolitan in Wallachia. A master calligrapher, he established the first printing press in Bucharest, spreading literacy and faith in the Romanian language. Despite his contributions, his reformist zeal and defense of the poor angered the powerful. Accused of treason, he was exiled and murdered in a remote swamp.

Holy Antim, pray to God for us to be bold in our service and unwavering in our commitment to justice.
