John the Valah, a Romanian who served in the Ottoman army, was a man of deep faith. When forced to convert to Islam, he refused, boldly proclaiming his devotion to Christ. Despite brutal tortures and repeated attempts to make him renounce his faith, John remained steadfast. His tormentors even brought his parents, but he would not yield. Finally, he was beheaded.
