John Cassian, a 4th-century monk, is celebrated for bringing Eastern monastic wisdom to the West. He lived as a hermit, and traveled to monasteries in Egypt and Palestine before founding monasteries in Gaul (modern France). He's renowned for his writings, especially the Institutes and Conferences, which shaped Western monasticism. The story goes that while praying, he encountered the demons of lust and fought them in his mind for a long time. He later used this experience to teach his monks how to deal with temptations.

Venerable John, pray to God for us and intercede on our behalf!
