Saint Andrew, the First-Called Apostle, brother of Saint Peter, heard John the Baptist's testimony and immediately followed Jesus. He then brought his own brother to meet the Messiah. Tradition holds that after Pentecost, he preached the Gospel throughout the region of Scythia, modern-day Romania, and Greece, suffering martyrdom in Patras. He was crucified on an X-shaped cross, which became known as St. Andrew's Cross. May he, through God's grace, intercede for us!
