Born in Epivat on the shores of the Sea of Marmara, little Parascheva, upon hearing the words of the Lord, "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself," gave away all her clothes to the poor. This act prompted her parents to banish her from their home. She then sought refuge in a monastery near Constantinople, later journeying to Jerusalem to walk in the footsteps of Jesus. Returning to her homeland, she lived as an ascetic until her passing.
