In 1769, during a raid by Ottoman Turks, Saint Venerable Martyr Gherasim of Tismana, abbot of Tismana Monastery, refused to reveal the location of the monastery's hidden treasures. Enraged, the Turks tortured and beheaded him inside the church. His sacrifice protected the holy site and its valuables. Holy Gherasim, pray to God for us!
