Constantin Brâncoveanu, ruler of Wallachia, and his sons, Constantine, Stephen, Radu, and Matthew, were martyred in 1714. Offered the chance to save their lives by converting to Islam, they refused, choosing death for their Christian faith. On August 15, after torture, they were beheaded in Constantinople.
