A simple peasant, Dimitrie lived a life of humility in Basarabi. After his death, during a time of drought, his relics were discovered incorrupt, near a river. The waters parted as the relics were carried across, bringing forth a spring, a sign of God's blessing. Later, during the Russo-Turkish War, when Bucharest was threatened, his relics were processed around the city, and the city was spared.
