Venerable #Sofronie of #Cioara, a Romanian monk in the 18th century, bravely defended #Orthodox faith against encroaching Catholic influence in Transylvania. Called to Vienna to debate theological issues, he instead presented a powerful statement of Orthodox beliefs and rights before Empress Maria Theresa. He was imprisoned for his unwavering stance but continued to inspire his flock through letters. After release, he tirelessly traveled throughout Transylvania, strengthening the Orthodox community until his death.
