Born into a wealthy family, Daniel abandoned earthly riches for monastic solitude. Living in a secluded cell carved into a rock, he dedicated himself to prayer and fasting. His wisdom and spiritual insight drew many seekers. When Stephen the Great, facing dire circumstances, sought Daniel's counsel, the hermit emerged from his hermitage. Daniel anointed Stephen as ruler, bolstering his confidence and prophesying victory. Stephen's subsequent triumph and righteous reign were attributed to Daniel's blessing and guidance.
