St. Andrew, brother of St. Peter, was called by Jesus to be an apostle. He preached the Gospel throughout Scythia and Greece. Tradition holds he was crucified in Patras on an X-shaped cross, because he deemed himself unworthy to be crucified on the same type of cross as Christ. Even in death, he continued to preach for two days, converting many until he finally gave up his spirit to God.
