Venerable John Iacob, after serving in Romanian monasteries, journeyed to the Holy Land. He lived a life of extreme asceticism in the wilderness of the Judean Desert, near the Jordan River, and later in Saint George Hozevit Monastery. He spent years in solitude in a nearby cave, dedicating himself to prayer, fasting, and writing spiritual poems. His poems reflect his deep love for God and his longing for union with Him. He reposed in 1960, and his relics were later found to be incorrupt, a sign of his holiness.
