Calinic of Cernica, as a young monk, fervently desired a life of solitude and prayer. He retreated to a small, secluded cell, dedicating himself to rigorous asceticism. Yet, his abbot, recognizing his spiritual gifts and administrative abilities, called him back to the monastery to serve the community. Calinic obeyed with humility, sacrificing his personal desires for the sake of his brethren, and later became a wise and beloved bishop.
