On this day, we remember Saint Dassie, a Roman soldier during the reign of Emperor Diocletian. Assigned to guard a pagan temple, Dassie refused to participate in the annual festival of Saturnalia. Openly declaring himself a Christian, he tore down the Emperor's edict ordering sacrifices to idols. For this act of faith, he was tortured and beheaded in 304 AD.
