Venerable George of Cernica, born in 1730, exemplified monastic obedience. A gifted iconographer before tonsure, he renounced worldly honors to embrace asceticism at Căldărușani Monastery, later moving to Cernica. Under St. Paisius Velichkovsky, he deepened his spiritual life, becoming abbot in 1781. He revitalized the monastery, emphasizing liturgical prayer and hesychastic practices. Despite challenges, including political turmoil, he expanded the brotherhood and built new churches. Resigning in 1806 to focus on prayer, he reposed in 1816, revered for his humility and spiritual guidance.

O Venerable George, pray that we embrace obedience and find renewal in the silence of prayer.
