Born in 1568 in Macedonia, Joseph entered monastic life at Partoș Monastery near Timișoara, becoming its abbot. Known for his piety and wisdom, he was later appointed Metropolitan of Timișoara. A peacemaker, he reconciled conflicting parties. He cared for the poor and sick. Miracles were attributed to him both during and after his life. Upon his death in 1656, a sweet fragrance filled the church during his funeral.
