Martyr John the New, a merchant of Trebizond, was falsely accused of renouncing Christianity by a Venetian merchant in Belgorod. Despite being given the chance to deny Christ, John steadfastly refused. He was brutally tortured – beaten, hung, scourged, and eventually beheaded. Even as he was dragged through the streets by a horse, he remained steadfast in his faith. His relics, later translated to Suceava, became a source of miracles and healing.

O, Holy Martyr John, intercede for us before the throne of glory.
