Driven from his monastery by invading Turks, Saint Gherasim of Tismana, a Romanian monk known for his asceticism, sought refuge in the wilderness. He came to the place of Tismana. He lived there in a cave, battling both the elements and temptations of the devil. He built the Tismana Monastery, a beacon of faith, and reposed there in peace. He is known as a defender of the Orthodox faith. Saint Gherasim, pray to God for us!
