In 1918, as Basarabia united with Romania, Alexandru was elected as a deputy in Sfatul Țării, advocating for the union. He tirelessly served his flock, teaching and administering sacraments. In 1941, during the Soviet occupation, he was arrested for his faith and Romanian identity. After enduring torture, he was martyred for refusing to renounce his beliefs.
