Hieromartyr Antim the Ivirian, a skilled calligrapher, founded the first printing press in Wallachia. Despite his high position as Metropolitan, he never forgot his humble roots, teaching the locals various crafts. His sermons, filled with social critique, angered some nobles. Accused of treason, he was exiled and murdered on his way to exile in 1716. O Holy Antim, pray to God for us, that we may have the courage to speak truth to power and to use our skills for the glory of God and the benefit of our fellow humans.
