In 1662, John the Valah, a young Romanian, was captured by Tatars and sold into slavery in Crimea. His master, a devout Muslim, tried to convert him, but John steadfastly refused, clinging to his Christian faith. Despite torture and threats, John remained resolute, declaring Christ as the true God. Enraged, his master had him brutally beheaded. Before his execution, John prayed for his persecutors. Christians secretly buried his body, and a heavenly light shone over his grave.

Holy Martyr John, pray to God for us!
