Venerable John Cassian, born in Roman Dacia, sought spiritual wisdom in the Egyptian desert. With his friend Germanus, he lived among the Desert Fathers, absorbing their ascetic practices and profound teachings. Later, in Marseilles, he founded two monasteries, one for men and one for women, and penned the Institutes and Conferences, guiding Western monasticism for centuries. His writings emphasized the balance between asceticism and grace, combating both laxity and spiritual pride. Let us pray that through his intercessions, we may find the golden mean in our spiritual lives.
