Emilian, a brave soul from Durostorum, lived during Emperor Julian the Apostate's reign. When he learned locals were secretly honoring idols, he boldly went to their temple and smashed them with a hammer. Arrested and brought before the authorities, Emilian refused to deny Christ. He was sentenced to be burned. But the flames, as if in reverence, danced around him, not harming him. Angered, the judge ordered him slain. As he embraced his execution, an earthquake shook the city.
