A humble shepherd, Dimitrie lived a life of quiet piety in the village of Basarabi. After his death, during a time of drought, his relics were discovered incorrupt and fragrant near the river. The relics were moved to a church in Basarabi, and miracles began to occur. Later, during the Russo-Turkish War, his relics were brought to Bucharest and credited with saving the city from plague and famine.
