Antim the Ivirian, a Georgian taken captive, rose to become a Metropolitan in Wallachia. A skilled calligrapher, he established the first printing press in Bucharest, spreading literacy and faith. His dedication to social justice and defense of the poor angered local nobles. In 1716, falsely accused of treason, he was exiled and murdered on his way to a monastery.

Holy Hieromartyr Antim, pray to God for us!
