Venerable Martyr Gherasim of Tismana, a monk of profound faith, lived in asceticism in the Romanian mountains. During a time of great turmoil, when Orthodox Christians faced persecution for their beliefs, Gherasim stood firm in his devotion. He refused to renounce his faith, even when threatened with torture and death. His steadfastness inspired many to remain true to their convictions. He was captured and ultimately martyred for his unwavering allegiance to Christ.
