Venerable Anthony of Iezeru, born in the early 17th century in Romania, abandoned a life of wealth to embrace monasticism at Iezeru. He dedicated himself to prayer and copying manuscripts in the wilderness. During a period of persecution, he became a confessor of the faith, encouraging his fellow Romanians to remain steadfast. He later retreated to a solitary cave where he lived in extreme asceticism until his death. His prayers were said to have worked miracles, protecting the nearby villages from invaders and disease.
