A humble shepherd, Dimitrie lived a life of simple piety in the village of Basarabi. After his death, during a time of plague, his relics were revealed in a dream to a pious woman. When his body was exhumed, it was found to be incorrupt, emitting a sweet fragrance. Initially, villagers tried moving the holy body, but the relics remained unmoved until they placed them on an ox cart heading to Bucharest. The cart moved on its own toward the church.
