In 1683, as Ottoman forces besieged Vienna, Prince Apafi ordered Metropolitan Sava to collect exorbitant taxes from the Romanian clergy to support the war effort. Sava refused, defending his flock against unjust demands. He was imprisoned in the Bobâlna dungeon, enduring harsh conditions for his defiance. Despite pressure and threats, Sava remained steadfast in his faith and commitment to his people. Released after a year due to public outcry, he continued to serve as Metropolitan, a symbol of resistance and faith.
