Antim the Ivirian, a Georgian, was enslaved in the Ottoman Empire but his skill in crafts, calligraphy, and languages led to his ransom. He became a monk in Wallachia (modern Romania), rising to Metropolitan. A champion of Romanian language in church, he established the first printing press in Bucharest. His reforms angered local nobles, leading to his exile and eventual assassination in 1716.

Holy Hieromartyr Antim, pray to God for us!
