St. Hermes, a Roman soldier, was imprisoned for his faith during Emperor Aurelian's reign. Despite torture and promises of wealth, Hermes refused to renounce Christ. Miraculously healed after each torment, he converted two jailers and 1,100 others, all of whom were then beheaded. Finally, Hermes himself was beheaded for his unwavering faith.
