During the persecution under Emperor Diocletian, Bishop Irineu of Sirmium was arrested. He was offered freedom if he would renounce his faith, but he refused. Instead, he boldly confessed his belief in Jesus Christ before the authorities. They subjected him to torture, but he remained steadfast. Finally, he was beheaded for his faith. Saint Irineu's unwavering courage continues to inspire.
