During a time of turmoil, when bandits raided the sacred place seeking treasures, Gherasim bravely defended the church. Seizing an icon, he confronted the intruders, urging them to repent. Enraged, they tortured him, seeking to know the location of hidden riches. But Gherasim remained steadfast, protecting the monastery's sanctity with his life. He was beheaded in front of the altar.
