Niphon, a monk from Mount Athos, reluctantly accepted the Patriarchate of Constantinople. Known for his strict asceticism and prophetic gifts, he foresaw the troubles that would plague the Byzantine Empire. Once, when Emperor Andronikos II Palaiologos insisted on entering the altar, Niphon refused him, foretelling the Emperor's loss of his throne. His unwavering commitment to faith over political favor made him a beacon of righteousness in a corrupt world.
