Ermil, a deacon, and Stratonic, a guard, were martyred in Singidunum (Belgrade) during Licinius' reign. Ermil openly confessed his faith, enduring severe beatings. Stratonic, secretly a Christian, wept openly at Ermil's suffering, revealing his belief. Both were then drowned in the Danube River for refusing to renounce Christ.
