In 1821, during the Greek War of Independence, Gregory IV faced immense pressure from the Ottoman authorities due to suspicions that Romanians were aiding the Greek rebels. Despite his efforts to maintain peace and protect his flock, he was arrested and imprisoned. Accused of inciting rebellion, he was brutally tortured and eventually hanged in Bucharest. His martyrdom became a symbol of resistance and faith for the Romanian people.
Let us pray for #GregoryIV, that his sacrifice inspires us to stand firm in our #Faith and to always act as peacemakers. May his memory be eternal! #OrthodoxChristian #Martyr #RomanianChurch #PrayerForPeace
