During the Communist regime in Romania, Father Ilarion Felea openly preached against the atheistic ideology and defended the Orthodox faith. Arrested in 1959, he endured brutal interrogations and torture, refusing to renounce his beliefs or betray his parishioners. He died in prison in 1961 as a result of the torture, becoming a symbol of resistance and faith.
