Born in the village of Basarabi, near the town of Russe, #Bulgaria, Dimitrie lived a humble, ascetic life. He was a shepherd known for his gentleness and kindness. After his death, during a time of war, his relics were discovered incorruptible near the river. Miraculously, they were moved to Bucharest, #Romania, and credited with saving the city from plague and famine.
