Hieromartyr Irineu, Bishop of Sirmium, refused to offer pagan sacrifices to Emperor Maximian during the Diocletianic Persecution. Instead, he fearlessly confessed Christ. Thrown into prison, he converted many. Brought before the Emperor again, he remained steadfast. Condemned, he was beheaded in 304 AD. His last words were a prayer for those who would remember him. May his courage inspire us to remain true to our faith.
