Venerable John Iacob the Romanian, after a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, was tonsured a monk at the Monastery of Saint Sava. His nights were spent in vigil and prayer, his days in humble service. He copied manuscripts and aided the sick. Later, he retreated to a cave for greater solitude, yet his reputation drew many seeking guidance. He bore hardships with patience and love, illuminating the desert with his holiness until his repose in 1960.
