In 1821, during the Wallachian uprising, Gregory IV sheltered rebels in monasteries, trying to mediate peace with the Ottomans. Accused of aiding the revolt, he was arrested and exiled to Izmit, Turkey. Despite harsh conditions, his faith remained unshaken. Through diplomatic efforts, he was eventually allowed to return to Bucharest in 1829, where he continued his pastoral duties, rebuilding churches and supporting education until his death in 1834.

Lord, hear our prayers through Gregory IV’s intercessions, that we too may stand firm in faith amidst trials.
