Venerable #Paraschiva of Iaşi, as a young girl, upon hearing the Gospel read in church, was struck by the words of Jesus: "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself." She immediately gave away all her clothing and valuables to the poor, following Christ's call to selfless love and devotion. This act marked the beginning of her life dedicated to asceticism and prayer.
