Saint Gherasim of Tismana, a monk of great piety, lived in the 14th century. Seeking solitude, he withdrew to the dense forests near the Tismana Monastery in Romania. During an invasion by foreign tribes, he refused to disclose the monastery's hidden treasures, choosing martyrdom rather than betray his vows and the sacred trust. He was tortured and beheaded by the invaders, becoming a symbol of unwavering faith and protector of the monastery.
