Hieromartyr Antim the Ivirian, a Georgian by birth, was Metropolitan of Wallachia. Skilled in languages and arts, he established the first printing press in Bucharest, publishing liturgical books in Romanian, Greek, and Slavonic. His sermons defended the Orthodox faith and promoted Romanian culture. Antim was exiled and martyred for his opposition to political interference in Church affairs.
