Venerable Dimitrie lived as a simple shepherd, known for his humility and kindness. After his death, during a time of war, his relics were discovered near the village of Basarabi. They were moved to Bucharest to protect them from invaders. When the wagon carrying his relics got stuck in mud, it was seen as a sign. Saint Dimitrie wanted to stay in Bucharest, becoming the protector of the city.
