In 1769, during the Russo-Turkish War, Saint Gherasim refused to reveal where the monastery's treasures were hidden when questioned by Ottoman soldiers. Enraged, they tortured and then beheaded him inside the church. His sacrifice protected the monastery and its community. Saint Gherasim's martyrdom stands as a testament to unwavering faith and courage.
