Philotheia of Curtea de Argeș, a young girl known for her piety, was brutally murdered by her stepmother for giving alms to the poor. Her body was discovered in the Argeș River, and when attempts were made to move her remains, they inexplicably became rooted to the spot. A local shepherd, guided by a vision, built a chapel over her grave. Later, her relics were enshrined in the Princely Church of Curtea de Argeș.
