Niphon, a monk of Mount Athos, reluctantly accepted the patriarchal throne of Constantinople. Amidst courtly intrigues and imperial pressures, he remained steadfast in his monastic virtues and spiritual insight. Once, Emperor Andronicus II, angered by Niphon's refusal to compromise on Church matters, threatened him. Niphon calmly prophesied the emperor's downfall, a prophecy that later came to pass.
