St. Visarion, in 1948, faced relentless torture for opposing the communist regime's interference in Church affairs. They demanded he endorse their policies, but he stood firm in his faith. Beaten, starved, and denied medical care, he never wavered. Even when they tried to force him to renounce his vows publicly, his spirit remained unbroken. He died a martyr for truth and devotion.
