During the reign of Emperor Maximian, Saint Emilian of Durostor, a Christian, was arrested for refusing to worship idols. He was brought before the governor, who tried to persuade him to renounce his faith. Emilian remained steadfast, confessing his belief in Jesus Christ. Enraged, the governor ordered him to be tortured. They stretched him on the rack, scraped his body with iron hooks, and burned him with fire. Despite the intense suffering, Emilian did not waver. Finally, he was beheaded. His relics are venerated for their power to heal.
